The creator of the riffle was able to shoot successfully 14 rounds before the barrel cracked. The 3D printed gun has become a movement and many can access the blueprints for 3D printed guns online. Those who have access the blueprint are taking the opportunity to improve on it every time it is printed.

This has led to a huge controversy and many hope that there will be a crackdown on the laws regarding the use of a 3D printer to make weapons. How does 3d printing work? The process is called additive manufacturing, it’s the process of taking data imported into a software through scanning an object, and then tweaking that object, then using a 3d printer to create it as a solid form. The printer works layer by layer and the results are a real-to-life model. As demonstrated by the 3d rifle maker a functional piece as well.

Three-dimensional printing has made into the news wire many times over the past year or so. Many are incorporating it into the companies as an added feature to their consumers. One example,   UPS is now offering 3D printing in stores. It is the second major company to offer 3D printing services, Staples was the first. However, those who can access the service through Staples are limited. UPS hopes that the service of 3D printing will increase opportunities for small businesses.

Whether building a gun, jewelry, shoes, instruments, and surfboards, this technology movement will only become more commonplace. Now that the 3D printers have hit an affordable price range, smaller to mid-sized companies are going to take advantage of its technology. It will dramatically cut down on costs and production time.

The expansion of 3d printing and the opportunity for many to access it will lead to new, innovative ideas. Why, because creative people who did not have a way to invent now have a chance at it, such as the newly designed Cortex cast that helps reset broken bones without the chunky, old, archaic casts previously used. This technology will only get better.
